In emergencies, private communication devices such as cell phones have a big limitation. Because the message must be sent to each phone individually, it takes far too long. Also because the sender cannot know where the people are, only generalized instructions can be communicated. Stationary network attached public communication devices such as PA speakers and LCD screens are many times faster and can deliver specific instructions that are adapted to each location. These advantages save lives.

Often in real emergencies, a single warning is not enough to get people to take immediate action. People fail to act quickly because they expect a second message delivered another way to confirm that the emergency message is not a mistake or a test of the system. To ensure that people act quickly it's vital that emergency messages are delivered simultaneously through multiple communication systems and devices. We believe this is a critical feature for emergency communication systems and it has driven the design of MessageNet Connections.
