Hospitals & Health Care

Hospitals and Health Care Institutions

Hospitals are the backbone of the health care industry. With a multitude of doctors, patients, staff and loved ones all working toward the same end, communication is absolutely vital. Everyday communications are urgent; and emergency communications are critical, often involving life-threatening situations. No single technology can meet the needs of all persons that need the communications. MessageNet Connections communicates to a wide variety of technologies and devices to ensure critical messages are delivered.

MessageNet Connections reduces and replaces the cost, complexity and need for Emergin applications in the hospital. MessageNet Connections integrates Nurse Call, Medical Gas, Vocera, Pagers, SMS text messaging, email, Overhead PA, LCD screens, mass dial, panic button, two-way radios, fire panels and other systems to provide the connectivity you need.

Visual Communications

Thanks to a proliferation of information systems, LCD flat-panel screens displaying video and computer content are becoming major fixtures in hospital décor. With MessageNet's MediaCom application, one LCD can be used as a shared resource to display screens from all of a hospital's different information systems, in an organized manner. These screens can be user-configurable, programmed to display in set rotations, display a main "default application" (such as bed status information), or can provide selectable viewing of other information screens. Once a selected application has been displayed for a predetermined length of time, the default application is automatically redisplayed.

With this type of configuration, hospitals will realize major cost benefits; and medical staff will know exactly where to go for the most up-to-date information on any and all systems that may be in-use.

Case Study:
Mass-Dialing Medical Staff - Indianapolis, IN

Communication with medical staff is critical and needs to be timely to be effective. At a major hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana, Charge Nurses use MessageNet's Call Vista application to mass-dial home phones and deliver a recorded message offering overtime shifts for nurses in NICU, L&D, and Family Care Units. The recipient of the message is prompted to call back the sender if interested in an overtime shift, and MessageNet's Call Vista automatically places the call.

Case Study:
Nurse Call & Code Blue - Portland, ME

At a hospital in Portland, Maine, the MessageNet system interfaces with the Nurse Call system to deliver Code-Blue pages to the appropriate medical staff instantly. All pertinent information is provided by the Nurse Call system (room number and location) and passed directly through MessageNet's Page Station application to the designated recipients' alpha-numeric pagers. No manual intervention is required.

Case Study:
Patient Education & Information - Muncie, IN

At a hospital in Muncie, Indiana, administrators installed MessageNet's MediaCom application in each exam room to act as "patient education stations." Prior to examination, the patient is free to select any number of educational videos or PowerPoints to view on the 20-inch screen. The categorization and selection of possible videos and PowerPoints is easily configurable from a standard Web browser by a system administrator. Thus, selectable content can be updated and changed as often as desired. Also, large LCD screens are used in the cafeterias and lobby areas to provide information to patients' families.
